National Office Furniture's manufacturing plant in Santa Claus, Indiana and its 11th Avenue seating plant in Jasper were accepted into the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's (IDEM) Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) for demonstrating long-term compliance with environmental laws and voluntarily agreeing to implement continuous improvements in sustainability. |
Kimball International has an internal corporate environmental group that monitors all facilities and production processes, provides training and assistance, and evaluates materials for use in Kimball products.
In 2007 & 2008 twelve Kimball locations implemented an Environmental Management System (EMS) and achieved third party ISO 14001 registration, the global standard for environmental protection and commitment to continuous improvement. One additional location requested external ISO 14001 Registration in 2009. The ISO 14001 Environmental Management System requires continuous improvement in all environmental areas. It requires all Environmental Aspects of the facility to be evaluated and rated as to their impact. Once the rating has been completed, the facility must determine which of these Aspects are Significant and develop Objectives, Targets, and Programs for improvement. In all, seven Kimball Office and National Office Furniture manufacturing facilities and five Kimball Electronics locations have achieved ISO 14001:2004 registration of their environmental management systems.
