“Nash is a fresh approach to the tub chair. I wanted to push the envelope a bit with the play of positive and negative space both to create an interesting flow around the chair that's seen from all angles as well as to reduce the visually heavy mass that can be so prevalent in more conventional tub chair designs. It's a bit challenging in upholstery, but worth the extra effort and time when you see the results. Proportionally, it's a larger than a normal guest chair. I actually have a hard time calling it a guest chair when defined under conventional guest seating proportions. To me, it’s in between a guest and club chair and can serve the purpose of both. This ample inside seating area allows the rounded, concave shape to comfortably embrace the user.”
Chris Carter graduated from the school of industrial design at Pratt Institute-Brooklyn, NY in 1991. He worked with various design firms in the metropolitan New York area designing and working on products for clients including Steelcase, Century baby products, Tyco toys, Colgate Palmolive, and Ford Motor Company.
More than thirty years later and principal of Chris Carter Design, LLC, he has had a worldwide client base consisting of North American, European, and Asian clients. His designs are currently being specified and used within corporate, healthcare, higher education, GSA, hospitality, and retail planning environments. The strong relationships he has with some of the industry's top-performing and high profile manufacturers, coupled with the ability to create aesthetically pleasing, utilitarian products at competitive pricing has proven a winning formula with which his clients can successfully compete among today's high standards and demands.
