Chris Carter
“I wanted to design a simple, yet elegant guest chair that depicts movement with the use of soft, sweeping arcs and tapers. This also helps to exaggerate the pitch of the chair visually which helps it appear not so static and monolithic. The intention to design this with more upholstery than most side chairs was to portray a feeling of comfort when solely viewing the chair and most importantly, to BE comfortable when you sit in it. The specifier is given the opportunity to really showcase some beautiful coverings on this product, which typically isn't the case with wood guest chairs. The coverings can be a dominant factor of the design with this product.”
Chris Carter graduated from the school of industrial design at Pratt Institute-Brooklyn, NY in 1991. He worked with various design firms in the metropolitan New York area designing and working on products for clients including Steelcase, Century baby products, Tyco toys, Colgate Palmolive, and Ford Motor Company.
More than thirty years later and principal of Chris Carter Design, LLC, he has had a worldwide client base consisting of North American, European, and Asian clients. His designs are currently being specified and used within corporate, healthcare, higher education, GSA, hospitality, and retail planning environments. The strong relationships he has with some of the industry's top-performing and high profile manufacturers, coupled with the ability to create aesthetically pleasing, utilitarian products at competitive pricing has proven a winning formula with which his clients can successfully compete among today's high standards and demands.
