Use this form to confirm if a textile has been tested and approved. You will instantly see if the fabric listed and showing an “Approved” status and if it has any restrictions or guidelines for use.


If the textile says “Not Approved” in the status, that textile is not allowed to be used on our products.


If the textile is not listed in the drop-down list, that means it has not been tested. Please click on this link to submit a test request: Test New COM Materials.


Due to Government regulations, Kimball International will not accept COM fabrics with intentionally-add PFAS. Please confirm with the supplier that fabric inventory that does not contain intentionally-added PFAS is available prior to ordering and is shipped for these orders.

FABRIC APPEARANCE GUIDELINES

Please note that Guidelines 1-4 are explanations of characteristics that you may see on your chair due to the construction of the fabric. We can still upholster fabrics associated with these guidelines, however, you may see some of the characteristics described.


1. Due to thickness and or stiffness this textile may result in gathers and puckers around corners, contours and certain seams.


2. Patterns are considered matched directional, however, decorative stitching, tufting/buttons, seams and seat to back match on corner units, wedge units, and diagonal units may not be aligned due to pattern configuration.


3. Textile with high nylon or wool content (more than 50%) may show signs of material stretch and lack of rebound when room temperatures fluctuate.


4. Mohair, velvet and chenille may be easily bruised or have the potential of crooked seams due to the heavy nap and flip.


FABRIC RESTRICTION GUIDELINES

Fabrics associated with guidelines 5, 6, and 7 prevent us from upholstering the applicable chair series.


5. This textile cannot be used for glue application. Potential issues could include poor adhesion quality to the mating surface, separation of the fabric face from the backing or glue bleeding through the fabric.


6. Thin and/or loosely woven textiles cannot be used due to potential fabric separation at the seams.


7. This textile has an uneven/irregular surface and cannot be used with topstitch upholstering. The topstitch disrupts the visual appearance of the upholstery. You can contact By Design to see if it is possible to remove the model’s top stitch in order to use the fabric.
