For over 50 years, Genesee Health System (GHS) has been the cornerstone of public services in Genesee County, providing care for individuals with serious mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. Recently, GHS acquired a new building to serve as its main campus, leading to a fresh opportunity to create a space that truly reflects GHS’s mission.
With this new facility, GHS aimed to design an environment that feels warm, welcoming, and comfortable from the moment anyone walks through the door. At the same time, the space needed to remain professional and functional, supporting the daily operations of a dynamic healthcare organization.
Through collaboration with Kimball International, GHS carefully selected solutions that balance durability, flexibility, and design, perfectly suited for their healthcare setting.
“Kimball International’s healthcare solutions allowed us to create spaces that feel welcoming and supportive while still meeting the rigorous demands of behavioral and outpatient care. That balance is why we continue to work with them.”
— Vice President, Genesee Health System
This resulted in a thoughtfully designed campus that prioritizes both visitors and staff. From inviting waiting areas and patient rooms to versatile training spaces and relaxing breakrooms, every corner of the new GHS campus reflects the intentional, human-centered design the organization envisioned.
Kimball International’s Collette and Joelle/Joelle Behavioral Wellness lounge products are standouts in the new GHS building. Placed throughout waiting areas, respite spaces, and patient rooms, these pieces combine the cozy, inviting feel of home with the durability required for a busy healthcare environment.
In breakroom and lounge areas, Fringe and Eklund provide flexible, adaptable solutions that support a variety of uses while offering optional privacy without compromising style or comfort. Together, these products created spaces that are functional and welcoming for staff and visitors alike.
The new Geneese Health Systems main campus stands as a powerful testament to their commitment to staff, patients, and the broader community.
