In recognition of Earth Day, we proudly distributed handcrafted bags to our customers. Created through our Belize Bags project, these gifts were crafted from leftover fabric that we send to Belize where indigenous women living in the San Jose Village transform the material into various sized bags and types of jewelry. Then they sell these items through fair trade initiatives. This project is designed to empower communities by promoting a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle, while also contributing to global efforts to tackle environmental issues. Our partnership allows the women to provide for themselves and their families.
Throughout our showrooms, manufacturing facilities, and headquarters, we asked our employees to donate sewing supplies to help support the project. Specifically, the ladies of Belize needed thread, fabric scissors, 7” zippers, and pedal-powered sewing machines. In addition to sewing notions, we also accepted donations to cover shipping costs to send the collected materials to Belize. Kimball International matched employee donations up to $1,000.
